In Canvas, you play as a painter competing in an art competition. Players collect art cards, layering 3 of them together to create their own unique Painting. Each card contains a piece of artwork as well as a set of icons used during scoring. Icons will be revealed or hidden based on the way players choose to layer the cards, making for an exciting puzzle.
Compete in an art festival by creating layered paintings in Canvas. Players collect transparent Art Cards and combine exactly three with a Background Card, producing a unique illustration and title while revealing the design icons needed to satisfy the shared scoring conditions.
Five Art Cards remain available in a central row. The card farthest from the deck can be taken freely, while reaching a later card requires Inspiration Tokens to be placed on every card skipped. Selecting a card that has collected tokens returns those resources to the player, creating a simple market around the most desirable artwork.
The order of the transparent cards matters because one layer can cover or reveal the Hue, Shape, Texture and Tone icons printed on another. Every player completes three paintings, collecting coloured Ribbons when visible icons meet the chosen Scoring Cards. Solo puzzles, scenario setups and the simulated painter Vincent provide additional ways to use the same creative drafting system.
